|---|---|---|---|---|
| Почти уверен (95%) | must | Очень высокая | He must be at home. (Он, должно быть, дома) | I'm almost certain that It's very likely that |
(80%) | should ought to |
Высокая | The train should arrive soon. (Поезд, вероятно, скоро прибудет) | It's likely that In all probability |
(50%) | will may |
Средняя | She may be working late. (Возможно, она работает допоздна) | It's possible that There's a chance that |
(30%) | might could |
Низкая | It might rain later. (Может, позже пойдет дождь) | It's conceivable that Perhaps |
| Отрицание (почти уверен) | can't couldn't |
Очень низкая | That can't be true! | It's impossible that There's no way that |
You've been working for 12 hours. You must be exhausted. She speaks French perfectly. She must be very fluent. The lights are on. Someone must be home.С глаголами состояния (state verbs):
He must know the answer. He's an expert. They must understand the instructions by now.
The ground is wet. It must have rained last night. He's not answering his phone. He must have forgotten about our meeting. She passed the exam with the highest score. She must have studied very hard.
He's very calm. The news must not have reached him yet. They're still here. Their flight must not have departed yet.
The package should arrive tomorrow. (It usually takes 2 days)He should know the answer. (He's studied this topic)It should be warm in Spain at this time of year.SHOULD + Have + V3 (ожидалось, но неизвестно):
They left an hour ago. They should have arrived by now.I sent the email yesterday. She should have received it.
It shouldn't take more than an hour. (Usually it's faster)He shouldn't have any problems. (He's well prepared)The price shouldn't be too high. (It's a standard service)SHOULDN'T + Have + V3 (не ожидалось, но возможно):
The letter shouldn't have gotten lost. (The postal service is reliable)They shouldn't have encountered any difficulties. (The path was clear)|
|---|---|---|
She may be in a meeting. | It's possible she's in a meeting. |
I may go to the party. | Perhaps I'll go to the party. |
He may have missed the train. | It's possible he missed the train. |
They may be waiting for us. | Perhaps they're waiting for us. |
It may not be true. | It might not be true. |
The results may be announced tomorrow. (Official context)
We might be able to finish early if everything goes well.He might have forgotten about our appointment. There might be some delays due to the weather.MIGHT + Have + V3 (прошлое, менее вероятно):
She might have been telling the truth. They might have taken a different route.
It might just possibly be the solution.
Anyone could make that mistake. It could be anywhere in the house. The answer could be simpler than we think.
It could be John, or it could be Mary.He could be working, or he could be sleeping.
He could have taken the earlier train. They could have been lying to us all along. The document could have been lost in the mail.
She could have become a doctor, but chose teaching instead. We could have won if we had played better.
That can't be right! (I'm sure it's wrong)He can't be more than 30. (He looks very young)You can't have finished already! (That was too fast)COULDN'T + Have + V3 (прошлое, почти невозможно):
She couldn't have known about the surprise. They couldn't have arrived yet. It's too early.Сильное отрицание: must be vs can't be
| Ситуация | MUST (уверен) | CAN'T (не может быть) |
|---|---|---|
He must be tired. | He can't be tired. |
She must have seen it. | She can't have seen it. |
They must be joking. | They can't be serious. |
It must be done by now. | It can't be finished yet. |
He must be at home. (Lights are on)He can't be at home. (His car is gone)They must have received our message. (We sent it days ago)They can't have received it yet. (We just sent it)
It's 6 PM. He will be on his way home now.She will probably be working late again. They will have arrived by now. (Their flight landed an hour ago)WON'T —
He won't be happy about this news.It won't take more than 30 minutes.WOULD — условные предположения:
If he were here, he would know what to do.She would have been about 20 at that time.MUST
❌ Must he be at home? (Вопрос звучит странно)✅ Do you think he's at home?❌ He mustn't be home. (Это не предположение, а запрет!)✅ He can't be home.❌ I must be wrong? (Вопрос с must — редко)✅ I must be wrong.
Do you think...?
Could it be that...?
Is it possible that...?
✅ It may not rain today.✅ It might not rain today.COULD
He could be the one. (Сейчас, возможность)He could have been the one.
✅ She may have left already.✅ She might have left already.
I'm fairly certain that he's at home.In all likelihood, they've already arrived. It stands to reason that she knows about it.
It's quite possible that we'll finish early. There's a good chance that it will rain.I wouldn't be surprised if he was late.
It's just possible that she forgot. There's a slight possibility that we're wrong. It's within the bounds of possibility.
It's highly unlikely that he'll agree. There's no way that can be true. It's virtually impossible.
2. CAN'T/COULDN'T
7. Для прошедшего используй: must/may/might/could + have + V3
Do you think...
